After an 8-year old struggle with cancer, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s youngest sibling, 26-year-old Syama lost the battle. She breathed her last on 7 December, liberating herself from unbearable pain and suffering.
Nawaz tried hard to keep his sister’s illness out of the public eye. “She’s just a child and the youngest in the family. I will do whatever it takes to cure her,” Nawaz had said, when he first found out about the illness. He had moved his sister to Pune for the best treatment and to keep her away from prying eyes.
Every time we spoke, I asked Nawaz about his sister. He once said, “It (the illness) is like a cloud covering all my success.
Here I am going through a hard-earned phase of success. Every time I want to celebrate my success I remember that my baby sister is critically ill. It kills all my joy in life.” Sadly when the end came for Syama, Nawaz was not in the country.
