Andhra Pradesh has announced a grant of Rs 30 lakh to the families of two state residents who died in the Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh. The state Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy announced financial assistance while expressing shock at the incident.
The two paramilitary personnel from Andhra Pradesh who were martyred in the attack are Rowthu Jagadish of Gajularega in Vizianagaram district and Sakhamuri Muralikrishna of Gudipudi in Guntur district. Both died in an exchange of fire with the Naxals while conducting a combing operation in the forest along the border of the Bijapur and Sukma districts of Chhattisgarh.
Meanwhile, both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana police have beefed up vigil and security in areas adjoining Chhattisgarh. Officials said that an alert had been sounded and combing operations have been intensified in the areas bordering Chhattisgarh.
The Telangana police have increased vigil particularly in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mulugu districts. “We are alert and regular combing operations are going on and security has been beefed up in areas a senior police official said.
He said police had been carrying out checking, cordon and search operations as part of the measures taken to prevent Maoists from entering Telangana.
