Srinagar, Sep 5 :
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Karra said on Thursday that the National Conference-Congress alliance has disrupted the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) strategy and will ensure the saffron party’s defeat in the upcoming Assembly polls.
“If the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) formed by the BJP is acceptable, why does the party object to the NC-Congress alliance?” Karra remarked before filing his nomination papers from the Central Shalteng constituency of Srinagar.
“I believe the BJP’s carefully planned chessboard has been disrupted, and they will ultimately face defeat due to the Congress-National Conference alliance,” the PCC chief said.
Karra emphasized that this alliance is for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Its purpose is to safeguard dignity, identity, and constitutional rights suppressed by the current administration, ensuring a better future for generations to come,” he said.
JKPCC president asserted that the NC-Congress alliance is not for electoral gains or forming a government but to defeat the BJP.
Regarding the numerous independent candidates contesting elections, Karra alleged that this is a deliberate attempt to disempower Kashmiris.
“Since 2014, the BJP aim is to fragment votes in Kashmir by promoting leaders from every street,” he said.
Karra warned that if people fail to exercise sound judgment in electing their government this time, they will face repercussions for the next 100 years.
He stressed that the upcoming Assembly elections have different parameters than previous ones.
In response to BJP leader Ram Madhav’s statement that political parties in Kashmir are fielding militants and ex-militants, Karra pointed out that Madhav is unaware of his own party’s history of recruiting ex-militants a few years ago.
A total of 26 Assembly Constituencies in the districts of Ganderbal, Srinagar, Budgam, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch shall go to polls in the second phase on September 25 and Thursday is the last date for filing of nomination papers.
