Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of J&K National Conference today asserted that misgovernance, hollow promises, and a fundamental disrespect for the aspirations of the people have diminished popularity and voting share of BJP in Jammu and Kashmir.
The senior NC functionary was addressing the NC workers’ day long convention here at Vijaypur. The convention was held under the chairmanship of Saudagar Gupta, District President JKNC Samba.
At the outset of the convention, the District President apprised senior functionaries of the Party about the pressing issues in the Kandi area, including severe water scarcity, frequent power shortages and unfulfilled promise of 5 Marla plots at safer places as committed by the BJP leadership. He highlighted the lack of adequate healthcare facilities, exacerbating the hardships faced by the local population. Additionally, he raised concerns about the alarming rise in terrorism activities, noting that the Samba border has increasingly become a gateway for terrorist infiltrations, further destabilizing the region.
Chief Guest on the occasion, Rattan Lal Gupta said that mis-governance has plagued the BJP’s tenure in Jammu and Kashmir, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the people. “The promises made by the BJP leadership have remained unfulfilled, creating a deep sense of betrayal among the residents of the Jammu and Kashmir thus eroding Party’s credibility and trust”, he said, adding that Saffron brigade has miserably failed to respect the aspirations of the Kashmiri people as it has shown a blatant disregard towards their hopes and dreams.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir are looking for leadership that listens to them and acts in their best interest. The BJP’s failure to do so has led to its diminishing influence”, he said, adding that contrary to this the newly elected MPs of NC have vowed to vociferously raise the voice of people of J&K in the Parliament and take all possible steps to work for public welfare and redressal of the burning issues being confronted by the people.
Rattan Lal Gupta accused the present dispensation of remaining indifferent towards problems of people residing in border areas. He said that despite assurances given by the government headed by BJP at the Centre the problems of people living along the border have not been alleviated as it seems that people at helm believe in rhetoric and not changing the situation on ground.
The Provincial President said that National Conference is committed to governance that respects and uplifts every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir. He asked the party workers to work determinedly to ensure NC’s decisive victory in Assembly polls so that National Conference could realize the people’s dreams and aspirations of making J&K prosperous and peaceful.
Babu Rampaul, Zonal President and former Minister, said that the weaker sections of society are suffering under the current government. He claimed that there is no one to address their concerns and listen to their grievances, leading to a significant loss for these vulnerable groups. He appealed to the people of entire Samba district to come forward and strengthen the hands of Party President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdulah for their brighter future.
Abdul Ghani Teli, Chairman OBC Cell, JKNC, said that the National Conference strongly supports secularism as under its regimes people of all faiths and religions have enjoyed all rights and privileges without facing any prejudice.
Surjit Singh Manhas Joint Secretary, Jammu Province and Mohinder Singh, NC leader, raised concerns about the escalating drug menace in the border belt of the region. They claimed that the government’s measures have been ineffective and have not been implemented on the ground, leaving the issue unaddressed and worsening.
