Nithya Menen is known for her roles in South films like Geetha Govindam, Mersal and Bangalore Days. This year, she also won her first National Award for her performance in the Tamil film Thiruchitrambalam. While she’s having a good run in South cinema, Nithya, who was seen in Mission Mangal in 2019, hopes to find interesting work in Hindi cinema, too. “Mission Mangal was such a positive experience. But yes, I hope to do more Hindi films. The Hindi film industry is so warm and encouraging. Whatever work I did here, I felt valued and was never taken for granted,” says Nithya.Talking about her long wait to sign another Hindi film, she explains, “It’s taking a long time for me to do my next Hindi film because I am waiting for a project that tests my potential. I think my potential hasn’t been fully explored yet, and I really hope that it finds expression.” Ask her if she’s ever felt that she doesn’t fit the quintessential Bollywood leading lady image, and she replies, “I believe that everyone sees you for what you are (your talent). Also, I think that people in the Hindi film industry connected with me because they have seen my work in South films. So, when I come here, they show me the same kind of love. I don’t think the industry is so narrow-minded now, there’s no room for that. It’s changed with time.”
