NITS Polytechnic, Indira Nagar, Miran Sahib, Jammu in collaboration with The Art of Living, Jammu Chapter and residents of Indira Nagar Colony started the mass mobilization campaign to meet the goal of Swachh Bharat following Hon’ble Prime Minister’s call to the nation to participate in Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. The staff, students, management of the institution, art of living volunteers and people of village Indira Nagar total numbering more than 1200 shall participate on different days to create awareness and will highlight the importance of cleanliness amongst the masses during the fortnight long campaign.
Speaking on the occasion the director of the institute and state teacher coordinator THE ART OF LIVING Mr. Savinder Gupta said that this Swachh Bharat campaign is aimed at cleaning the Indira Nagar environs and improving sanitation facilities.
NITS and ART OF LIVING has taken the responsibility of Indira Nagar village in the vicinity of the institute in RS Pura Tehsil and will engage it in cleaning the area, promoting public sanitation and will launch a campaign on waste management.
The institute will also actively participate in awareness building which will be done by organizing debates, essay competitions and student’s project works on the theme of sanitation, public hygiene and waste management.
He also emphasized that the young budding students of the Mechanical Engineering dept. has also developed a Waste Compositing machine in the college workshop itself to support and promote the Swachh Bharat Mission. Educational Institutions and organizations like THE ART OF LIVING can play a leading role in chalking out long term sustainable action plans for cleanliness. NITS and THE ART OF LIVING will take this opportunity to demonstrate its commitment in bringing about change both in attitude and in practice and would lead by example in dealing with these important health and societal issues.
