Jammu and Kashmir athletes have been allowed to take part in the upcoming 60th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship to be held at different venues of Patiala in Punjab from June 25 to June 29. As per the reports reaching here, the competition has been made qualifying event for the Tokyo Olympics by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) thus entertain only champion athletes. “Since the event is aimed at selecting the athletes for the Tokyo Olympics, the qualification marks are on higher sides. Only those athletes have been invited, who have got standard qualifying marks considering the results of state level championships,” informed general secretary of the J&K Amateur Athletics Association, Sharat Chander Singh.Likewise, in other states, J&K held the championship in February last but hardly any athlete touches the set standards, so denied invitation or entry in the National event.”Hardly any athlete touches the qualifying mark, so denied the invitation for the championship. Since the event is being held with focus on Olympic selections, only champion athletes are allowed to compete,” said Sharat Singh.
