New Delhi, Mar 04 :
Wouldn’t it be nice if your window had an adjustable mesh that would expand to allow more light and air when you need it, and contract when you don’t?
Here at the ongoing Bengaluru Nano India show, among the more immediately useful technologies showcased is one developed by the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS).
The Bengaluru-based tech centre has developed a smart window made of aluminium interspersed with glass that can regulate the light and air coming into your apartment or office, thereby allowing you to turn up or down the light and air-conditioning as is comfortable to you.
In particular, the solution is tailor-made for the construction industry to build buildings that do not trap heat and therefore need less energy. This technology can also be used in the automobile industry.
It’s a known fact that glass facades increase the temperature inside a building, due to which people use air-conditioning and fans. In the nanotech smart window, the capacity to transparency of the window varies between 0 and 90 per cent, depending on your requirement. In summer, only 10 per cent of light is allowed to enter, thereby minimizing the heating up of a room. Conversely, in winter, maximum light or heat can be allowed in, keeping the interiors warmer. This reduces or minimizes usage of air conditioners or room heaters.
