Nrityanjali’s students present Kathak, mesmerise audience

JAMMU, June 20:
To develop taste for classical dance forms of India and popularise this art form among youth of Jammu, Rangyug -a theatre group dedicated to social change and self realization, today organised a Kathak Dance Recital at Abhinav Theatre where in the young students of Nrityanjali Academy of Classical Dance, Jammu performed under the guidance of Dr. Priya Dutta.
Vice Chancellor Jammu University, Prof. Manoj K. Dhar was chief guest while President Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, Prof. Lalit Magotra was the guest of honour. Prof. Renu Nanda, Dean Education JU was also present as the special guest on the occasion.
As many as 20 students, who attended the Summer dance workshop organised by Nrityanjali under the supervision of Dr Priya Dutta, took part in this event.
On the occasion, the participants of the programme also offered tributes to Yog Guru, Yogi Sanjayji, to commemorate the World Yoga Day being organised on June 21. Besides, Yogi Sahil also performed some Aasnas of Yoga as attribute to his Yog Guru.
The event started with Ganesh Vandana (Kathak form) by senior students, Raksha Sharma and Priya Sharma which was based on Teen Taal and Tulsi Das poetry followed by presentation of Shud Kathak dance, means basics of Kathak,Tode, Tukde, Tihaiya, Kavit etc based on teental by Aadhya, Adeesha, Nitya, Ananya, Yashita, Rezal, Gaytri, Swara, Aanandita, Lakshita, Prisha, Arshiya, Sidhhi, Swastika, Arya, Siyona.
Later, Tarana was performed by Priya Sharma, Rakesh Sharma and Kritika Dutt followed by a Bollywood song ‘Mohe Rang do Lal’ by Junior and Sub juniors.
A Sufi Kathak marked the conclusion of the event which was presented by Priya, Raksh, Ahaana and Kritika.
The dancers’ swift pirouettes (spins) and graceful footwork performed to the musical tempo and beat, their impressive artistry and fluid movements, brought on a visual splendour that kept the audience engrossed.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Manoj K Dhar appreciated the efforts of the Nrityanjali Academy and said that Kathak as a dance form has a unique iconic niche in the landscape of major Indian classical dance forms.
Earlier, Dr Jasmeet Kour, senior member of Nrityanjali welcomed the audience and threw light on various programmes and initiatives of the group.
Senior Artist, Purshotam Kumar on Pakhwaj, Vijay Kumar on Tabla, Rajkumar Behrupia on Harmonium provided fine accompaniment for success of the programme. Proceeding also conducted by Rajkumar Behrupia. Vote of thanks presented by honorary Director, Rangyug.
