NSUI Punjab president gives Rs 51,000 to athlete Kamalpreet Kaur

NEW DELHI, March 24

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Punjab president Akshay Sharma on Wednesday gave Rs 51,000 to Kamalpreet Kaur, for breaking the nine-year-old national record in the discus throw on Friday, and qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.

Akshay on Wednesday visited Kamalpreet’s residence at Kabarwala village here, and said, that her hardwork and dedication would inspire other youngsters to take up sports as a career.

Despite this, the chairperson of Punjab State Commission for Women Manisha Gulati too congratulated Kamalpreet Kaur over the phone.

“The chairperson of Punjab State Commission for Women today congratulated me through a video call and said that she would appoint me as an ambassador of the commission,” said Kamalpreet.

However, Manisha wasn’t available for comment.

Notably, Kamalpreet is the first woman discus thrower in India with a throw of 65.06-metre. This record was created during the Federation Cup National Athletics, held in Patiala.

Meanwhile, former MP Jagmeet Singh also visited Kamalpreet’s residence to congratulate her.
