One-day Capacity Building Workshop on National Rabies Control Programme held at Doda

A one-day capacity-building workshop cum orientation programme on the National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP) for healthcare professionals, including Medical Officers & MLHPs, was successfully organized here today at the Make Shift Campus of Government Medical College.
The event was organized by the District Surveillance Unit (IDSP) under the banner of the District Health Society.
Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the workshop in the presence of Principal GMC Dr. Rakesh Bahl ; Chief Medical Officer Dr. Om Kumar, and other guests including Umar Anayat (Epidemiologist), Dr Hamid Parray, Mohammad Shafi Attu (HE), Sanjeev Rana, Mashhood Latif and staff of CMO office and Government Nursing College Doda.
In his inaugural speech, the DC highlighted the importance of the National Rabies Control Programme in combating this preventable yet deadly disease. He emphasized the critical role of healthcare professionals in ensuring timely interventions, raising public awareness, and strengthening community-level disease surveillance. “It is imperative that we work together to ensure no life is lost to rabies, which is entirely preventable. This workshop is a step towards empowering our healthcare workforce to achieve that goal,” he said. He also encouraged participants to utilize the knowledge gained to create a robust healthcare delivery system in the district.
The workshop witnessed participation from Medical Officers and Mid-Level Health Providers (MLHPs) representing all medical blocks of the district, including Assar, Bhaderwah, Gandoh, Ghat, and Thathri.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Om Kumar Chief Medical Officer extended warm greetings to the participants and highlighted the significance of the NRCP. He emphasized the importance of case evaluation and preventive measures in controlling rabies.
The workshop featured expert sessions by experts.
Principal GMC Dr. Rakesh Bahl provided in-depth insights into the clinical aspects of rabies management, while Dr. Naveed Anjum, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon from the Animal Husbandry Department, discussed the understanding rabies and prevention, followed by a lecture given by Incharge Anti Rabies Clinic GMC Doda Dr Anzer Majeed who discussed the zoonotic transmission of rabies, treatment and preventive strategies.
Among others, the workshop was also attended by HOD Micrbobiology GMC Doda Dr Safia Khan and Dr Garima Charak from Department of Physiology.
The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of healthcare professionals in rabies prevention, early diagnosis, and management, thereby contributing to the overall public health goals of the district.
The event concluded with an interactive session, where participants discussed various challenges and shared their experiences, ensuring a productive and engaging programme.
