Heavy Rains force closure of Mughal Road
SRINAGAR, Aug 30 :

One person died and two others were injured on Friday when the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a shooting stone along the Mughal Road, which connects Kashmir Valley’s Shopian district with the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Quoting officials, GNS reported that the vehicle, was travelling from Kashmir Valley to Bufliaz and came under the shooting stone at Chatta Pani in the Surankote area of Poonch district. “Three persons in the vehicle were injured and were later shifted to a hospital, where one of them, identified as Shahzad Ahmad, son of Saif Ullah of Gambir Mughlan Rajouri, succumbed to his injuries. The two others, Mohammad Afzal, son of Shah Mohammad, and Lal Hussain, son of Shab Din, also residents of Gambir Mughlan Rajouri, are undergoing treatment, they added.”
A police officer said that a case has been registered in this regard.
Mughal Road, connecting Kashmir Valley’s Shopian district with the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, was closed for vehicular traffic on Friday as a precautionary measure, officials said. They said that the road was closed following a request by the R&B

authorities to the traffic police to shut the thoroughfare from the Bufliaz side onwards, “keeping in view the inclement weather and incessant rains.”
The letter also noted that due to continuous rainfall, there is a risk of shooting stones as well as the occurrence of multiple landslides.
To avoid any untoward incidents and risks to life, traffic authorities were requested to close Mughal Road for vehicular movement until the weather improves. Subsequently, a senior traffic department officer confirmed to GNS that the thoroughfare has been closed.
