Abhay Kumar Mahajan, SSP (Retd) and Co-Convener of the J&K BJP Senior Citizens Cell, chaired an awareness programme on the “One Nation, One Election”, highlighting its benefits in streamlining elections, improving efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing political stability.
The event, held in Channi Himmat, Jammu, was organized by Abhay Kumar Mahajan under the banner of J&K BJP’s Senior Citizens Cell. Prominent speakers at the event, including Bharat Bhushan Talwar, Ashok Khajuria, Dr. Shreyansh Kumar Jain, Abhinandan Jain, and Prof. H.C. Vaid, elaborated on the positive aspects of holding simultaneous elections across the country. They emphasized that conducting elections together would curb the massive financial burden on the government and political parties, reducing costs associated with security, logistics, and administrative efforts.
The speakers further stressed that frequent elections lead to the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which hampers policy implementation.
Holding elections simultaneously would not only enhance governance efficiency but also improve voter participation, as citizens would need to cast their votes only once within a given period.
A host of senior leaders and dignitaries, including Kailash Kumar Langer, Capt. Karnail Singh, Inderjeet Sawhney, Suman Kumar Abrol, Ashok Kumar Sharma, Gopal Sharma, B.S. Salathia, Rakesh Sharma, Gopal Ram Khajuria, Rattan Singh Mankotia, Mohinder Singh, Raj Kumar, Shyam Lal Khajuria, Rakesh Gupta, Hem Raj Sharma, N.D. Sharma, Hriday Chand, Man Mohan Krishan, Vicky Verma, Balbir Singh, and Pardeep Singh, participated in the discussion.
Abhay Mahajan urged all participants to take a pledge to spread awareness about the benefits of “One Nation, One Election” among the masses.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ashok Khajuria.
