JAMMU, June 02:
Dharamshala Himalayan Trekking Programme, organized by Tawi Trekkers, the premier trekking organisation of state, commenced today with 47 students including 19 girls of Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School, Jammu leaving for Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh (HP) to participate in the prestigious adventure activity.
The group, led by joint secretary of Tawi Trekkers, Sonam Sidharth and a prominent mountaineer of the state, Manik Slathia, also includes four teachers of the school namely Arvinder Kour, a veteran trekker, Punam Gupta, Nitika Thapa, sports teacher and Sudesh Thakur.
During the four days sojourn in Dharamshala area, the trekkers would visit Mcleodganj, Chamunda, Dalai Lama Temple, the headquarters of Tibetan Government in exile; Bhagshunag, water fall, Dharamkot, popularly called mini Israel; Gallu temple, the beautiful Dharamshala Stadium and Tapovan besides Nagini Devi enroute their return journey to Jammu.
However, the special attraction of the programme shall remains a visit to a sprawling tea garden and a tea manufacturing company where the students shall learn the complete process of production of tea.
Earlier, the group was flagged off by Principal of Oriental Academy, Vivek Chouhan from MA Stadium, here in the presence of president, Ram Khajuria and a senior trekker of Tawi Trekkers, Sakshi Magotra, staff of the school and a large number of parents of the students.
