More than one in five competitors representing India at the Paris Olympics hail from Haryana, a state known for his sporting culture.As many as 25 sportspersons from the northern state are part of the 115-strong contingent of athletes who have made the cut for the Indian squad in the globe’ biggest sports show being staged at the French capital.Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini extended his best wishes to the players from the state and the entire country. He expressed confidence in their abilities and hoped they would excel in their respective events, bringing glory and honor to India on the global stage.Saini said that the selection of close to 22 percent players from Haryana, which contributes only 2 percent of the country’s population, is a matter of great pride.He said in recognition of the athletes’ efforts, the Haryana government awards the highest prize money in the country to Olympic Medal winners. Rs 6 crore are set aside for every gold medallist, while silver winners would be richer by Rs 4 crore, with bronze medalists set to receive Rs 2.5 crore. Additionally, all participating athletes from the state would be awarded Rs 15 lakh each.
