Terming the upcoming Panchayat polls as crucial for strengthening democracy at grass-roots level in Jammu and Kashmir, former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla exhorted the cadre to gear up for the big challenge and ensure election of public spirited and honest representatives to the basic democratic institutions.
Interacting with party workers in a impressive function organized by newly elected Corporator Bhanu Mahajan, Ward 21 in Gandhi Nagar constituency , Bhalla said that participation of youth and women is imperative for ensuring their effective involvement in decision making at local levels.
He exuded confidence that the sagacious voters would elect dedicated and public spirited representatives who would change the rural scenario by their innovative ideas.
Panchayat election is the core of democracy and it has proved beneficial for general public as people directly get the chance to choose their leader who can mitigate their local problems,” Bhalla said adding that his party does not believe in caste based and communal politics but our main thrust is safeguarding national interests. He said unlike other parties, a Congress party worker has to devote himself to nation instead of having any expectations for himself, and party workers are expected to render a selfless service to the country. He further said that the people are the strength of the party and the leadership and workers should maintain a good liaison with masses. Bhalla said that previous BJP-PDP Government remained in power for more than 40 months and now being out of power they are passing the buck on amongst each other.
He also said that people of Jammu region are now fed up with their petty politics and will teach them a lesson in forth coming elections.
He said the Youth Congress is the backbone of the party and asked its leaders and workers to extend their support to honest and dedicated youths who can serve better to the people through this basic institution of democracy.
