Pawan Kotwal inaugurates workshop on Child labour

Financial Commissioner Revenue Dr. Pawan Kotwal today inaugurated a three days workshop on child labour with special focus on Child & Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 2016, which was jointly organized by State Mission Directorate ICPS Social Welfare, National Develo pment Foundation, J&K Jammu and V.V. Giri National Labour Institute Ministry of Labour and Employment, GOI.
While inaugurating the workshop, Dr. Pawan Kotwal stressed upon the participants to eliminate child labour and ensuring child protection. He said that ensuring child rights is the priority area of the State.
Pawan Kotwal asked the officers to undertake field visits to ensure enforcement of labour laws and also to eradicate the menace of child labour in the state.
He further asked to make all-out efforts for highlighting various schemes of the government for labourers.
Dr. Kotwal while elaborating further said that we are an old civilization and civilizations are judged on how they deal with the disadvantaged sections of the society like women and children.
Earlier, Mission Director, ICPS Social Welfare Department G. A. Sofi gave welcome address and brief intro of the programme while Dr. Helen R Sekar from V. V. Giri gave detailed outline and structure of the workshop.
Rajiv Khajuria Founder Emeritus National Development Foundation Jammu also spoke on the occasion and discussed in detail child protection mechanisms available in the state and possible linkages.
Participants from various departments including Labour Department, Social Welfare Department, NGOs and civil society attended the workshop and discussed in detail about the issues in implementation of CLPRA, reasons of child labour and shared recommendations for minimizing existence of child labour in the state.
Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Amitav Kuntia from V V Giri National Labour Institute Noida.
