Div com directs DCs to start intense drive to curb illegal power connections
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER, 19: On the directions of the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan, PDD has regularized 63711 electricity connections under SAUBHAGYA scheme across the Valley.
SAUBHAGYA or Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana was flagged off in September 2017 with the objective of electrifying all left-out households.
It was given out that the approved budget for the implementation of SAUBHAGYA scheme in Kashmir division is Rs 358.95 crore and 98947 electricity connections are pending which will be regularized by November 2018.
To achieve 100 per cent electrification under SAUBHAGYA scheme, Div Com directed all District Development Commissioners (DDCs) of Kashmir Division to start an intense drive with PDD authorities to identify all illegal power connections in their respective districts and regularize them under the scheme.
He also asked them to identify those households who have two or more families residing under single electricity connection.
“DDCs will work in co-ordinate efforts to ensure that the beneficiaries are identified in a transparent manner so that the benefit percolates to the genuine and deserving ones,” he added.
Concerned district administrations were also asked to send their complete progress report to the Divisional Commissioners office on monthly basis for the further course of action.
Meanwhile, Chief Engineer PDD informed that new domestic power connections can be availed free of cost under the Saubhagya scheme.
The free connections which also include the provision of free infrastructure under the scheme can be availed up to 30 November 2018.
The general public has been asked to contact the office of the Chief Engineer PDD Kashmir.
