Shri Madan Lal Memorial Trust today organised a remembrance meeting for late Madan Lal Sharma, former Member Parliament and veteran Congress leader who passed away around two months ago.
A number of senior Congress leaders spoke in the function organised at Khour, which was also attended by thousands of people, and paid tributes to late Madan Lal Sharma.
The attendance observed two minutes silence to pray for eternal peace to the departed soul, before the senior leaders remembered the former MP.
Madan Lal’s son and Trustee of Shri Madan Lal Memorial Trust, Satish Sharma paid floral tributes to his father and remembered his contributions for the public at large. “My father always kept the service of people before anything, be it his family or health. We have seen how he would stay out of home for days in row or would not sleep, when it comes to his people, whom he regarded as the most important for him,” said Satish Sharma, with teary eyes. He said that the massive participation from people in this remembrance meeting goes on to show the love and respect his father earned in the five decades of his public life.
Paying his tribute, Yogesh Sawhney, former minister and President DCC Jammu Urban remembered Madan Lal Sharma as a great leader of the party who was liked by one and all because of his humbleness and qualities of leadership. “Late Madan Lal Ji was one of the most secular and democratically sound leaders in the entire country. Even after seeing many ups and downs in his public life which spanned over 5 decades, he remained a determined soldier of the people and served them till his last breath,” he said.
Sawhney said that it is important for the party cadre to preserve and imbibe the principle of life from Madan Lal Sharma. He also appealed to the huge number of people in the gathering to strengthen the Congress party and extend their support to the party’s pro-people policies.
“We need your support for a better tomorrow. Strengthen the Congress and make it a formidable force in the upcoming elections for welfare of the public,” he appealed.
In his address, Hari Singh Chib, President DCC Jammu Rural described Madan Lal Sharma as a humble person who always remained associated with the people at the grass root levels especially the poor and the downtrodden.
“Late Madan Lal Sharma had a long but equally meaningful inning in politics and served the people of state to the best of his abilities. The huge turnout of people in today’s function is a testimony to his popularity among the people that thousands of them have gathered here to pay tributes, even after he is gone,” said Chib.
A number of speakers who addressed the gathering pinned their hopes on Satish Sharma and asked him to fill in the vacuum created by the demise of his father Madan Lal Sharma. The crowd in thousands also favoured the demands and asked Satish Sharma to take it upon himself to fulfil the unrealised dreams of Late Madan Lal Ji.
A number of senior leaders including Prem Singh Chib, Sarpanch Ram Swaroop Sharma, Sanjay Kumar, former vice chairman OBC Board Kuldeep Verma, Harnam Dass, block president Bachan Singh and Sarpanchs and Panchs were present on the occasion.
