New Delhi, June 4 :

He thanked the people of the country and said that they have sent a clear message through the mandate that they don’t want Narendra Modi and Amit Shah in running this country.
Addressing a jam packed press conference at the AICC headquarters here which was also attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Chairperson of Congress Parliamentary Party Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi said, “We fought this election not just against one person or one party but against the governance system of the country, the institutions like the CBI, IT and ED which were captured by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister”.
Thanking the people of Uttar Pradesh, the Senior Congress leader said that the people of the state have now understood the politics of the country and came out in large number and voted for INDIA bloc.
Stating that this election was a fight to save the Constitution, Gandhi said, “When the Modi government froze our bank accounts, put our Chief Ministers in jail, broke up parties. I was sure and it was in my mind that the people of the country will not tolerate this and unitedly fight for their Constitution. And this proved out to be true”.
When asked about whether he would stake claim to form the next government, the former Congress President said, “We are going to have a meeting of INDIA bloc tomorrow and these questions will be raised there and a decision will be taken. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday thanked the people of the country for reposing faith in the INDIA bloc, and said that the mandate has gone against Narendra Modi and was a huge defeat for the BJP morally and politically.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, Kharge said, “BJP has sought votes on one person and one face, but now it is clear that the mandate has gone against Narendra Modi. This is a huge defeat for them morally and politically. They have suffered a huge loss from moral point of view”.
He said that the Congress and INDI alliance fought this election in a hostile environment. The coalition fought this election on people’s issues and during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and the earlier Bharat Jodo Yatra, the people even got more connected with the Congress.
Accusing the Prime Minister Narendra Modi of bringing down the level of the position he was holding, Kharge said, “The kind of campaign Narendra Modi conducted will be remembered in history. The public understood the lies spread by Modi about the Nyay Patra of the Congress”.
He said the the way this government ruled for 10 years had convinced the people that if the BJP got another chance it would attack the the Constitution and democracy and expressed happiness that the party will not be able to succeed in their conspiracy.
He said that the fight was not over yet and the party will keep on fighting in the coming days to protect their rights, security of the country, Constitution and democracy.
