JAMMU, Sept 27:
The combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments of University of Jammu (JU) clinched both men and women’s title trophies in Basketball in the ongoing inter-college competitions of JU at different venues on the campus, here today.
In the men’s final, PG Departments outplayed the defending champion, GGM Science College 62-59 in a high scoring close game. Rohan Kundal, Pushpak Sharma and Rishabh Bakshi were the star performers from winners, PG while Arjun Dev Jamwal and Usman Rashid did a fine job for the Science College.
Similarly, in women’s title clash, PG defeated reigning champions, Government College for Women (GCW) Parade 19-02 making it a one-sided contest.
Harmanpreet Kour, Kanupriya Dubey and Prableen Kour played extraordinary game for the PG Department.
Director Poonch Campus of JU, Prof. Vinod Sharma was the chief guest in the finals, who presented the title trophies and medals to the winners and runners up. He was accompanied by Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, JU, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba.
Among others present were Mahesh Sharma, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Vikas Karlopia, Gagan Kumar, PD Singh and Jai Bharat.
FOOTBALL: Semifinals position has been cleared in the ongoing inter-college Football competition with Government SPMR College of Commerce, PG Arts, GDC Kathua and GGM Science College qualifying for the last four stages of the tournament underway on the JU campus courts.
The Results: Quarterfinals: SPMR Commerce College beat GDC, Poonch 2-0 (Brij Pal Singh 9th and
Harmanjot Singh 13th); PG Arts beat GCET 4-1 (Mussa 18, Imran 22nd, Aqeel 35th, Amit 44th; Aashiq 54th); GDC Kathua beat MAM College 3-0 (Yogesh Kumar 50th, Aniket 57th, Paramveer 63rd); GGM Science College beat PG Law and Sciences 4-0 (Ankush 5th and 21st , Nikhil 26th, Tenzin 45th).
The matches officiated by the technical penal including Suresh Gupta, Dheeraj Menia, Rahul Sharma, Rohit Gupta, Dil Bahadur, Tarapal Singh and Gagan Kumar.
CHESS: Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) Jammu shall be playing against MIET Jammu in the final of the inter-college men’s chess tournament underway at the Gymnasium on the JU Campus, here tomorrow. In the semifinals, decided today, GCT beat Government SPMR College of Commerce 3-1. The Results: Rohit Raina bt Nitish Kumar, Adil bt Ajitesh, Dheeraj bt Amit, Manmohan lost to Sourav Pandey. In other semifinal, MIET trounced GGM Science College 3-1. The Results: KUnal bt Amit, Ashutosh bt Uday, Rajat bt Shivauin, Deepanshu lost to Vikas.
Similarly, in women’s section, Government College for Women (GCW) Parade shall face GCW Udhampur in the final tomorrow. In the semifinals, GCW Parade defeated GDC Kathua 4-0. The Results: Sonali bt Smile, Simran bt Pratibha, Apooorva bt Roshi, Manisha bt Sukriti. In other semifinal of women’s section, GCW Udhampur outplayed GGZSM Degree College Reasi 3-2. The Results: Lushi Mahajan bt Pallavi, Amisha bt Divya Reasi, Sarika lost to Mahaima, Pooja lost to Sunakshi. Best v/s best: Amisha bt Mahima.
