Outplaying the Girdari Lal Dogra Memorial Government Degree College (GDC)
Hiranagar by a convincing margin of 20 points, the combined side of Post Graduate (GP) Departments comprising mostly the Bachelor of Physical Education (B.PEd) students lifted the Inter College men’s Kabaddi trophy at Gymnasium Hall on the JU campus, here today.
The event was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education with technical support from the J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC). The event was more of a ritual than contest, the reason being the JU team already took part in the inter-university Tournament.
In fact, the event was left half way a month ago in view of allegations of some non-students in GDC Samba team. However, the Directorate of Sports selected a team and sent for the inter-university competition without completing the event.
With JU already played the inter-university competition, the inter-college tournament was resumed from where it was stopped and final decided today.
In the final, Joint Registrar (Finance), JU, Dr Dharminder Magotra was chief guest, who witnessed the second half of the play and presented the title trophy to PG team amidst cheers from the spectators. He was accompanied by Director Sports, Dr Daud Iqbal Baba and Physical Director GDC Hirangar, Vikram Jamwal and PTI Campus, Raj Kumar.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Magotra told the gathering of players and students that JU has taken a number of initiatives to strengthen the sports infrastructure on the campus.
Earlier, PG defeated GDC Hiranagar by a margin of 20 points with final score being 76-56. At the end of first half of the play, GDC Hiranagar were leading by seven points but could not restrict the aggressive play from their seniors from PG and lost the game.
Among others present were Vikas Karlopia, Harinder Pal Singh, Ravish Vaid, Jai Bharat, Ashwani Bali and Gagan Kumar, Anil Gupta, Anil Kumar, Keshav Singh, Ankush Gupta and Amandeep Singh.
