Former minister and Sr State Vice President National Conference Mr Surjeet Singh Slathia on Sunday stressed the need for increased physical activity, especially among the youth, saying this is imperative for their overall personality development and sharpening mental faculties. “For channelizing youth energies towards positive pursuits, physical health and activity assumes significance to enhance agility and overall growth to meet various challenges confidently”, Mr Slathia said while inaugurating Town Fitness Club, an entrepreneurial initiative, at Bari Brahmna in Vijaypur Assembly Constituency this morning. Slathia described youth as the future of the nation and the state and said their proper growth has to be given impetus. In this regard physical activity for their overall health should have to be a priority area. He hoped the youth will benefit from the facility in their area especially in the backdrop of the decline in habitual physical activity with modernization. The former minister sought societal involvement in channelizing the youth energies towards national development and benefit of the society at large and called for a motivational campaign to keep them away from social evils. He expressed concern over drug addiction and said this is the area where a collective effort is needed to keep youth away from this malady, which is eating up very vitals of the society. He said physical fitness is equally important for fighting disease and therefore every segment of the society, irrespective of age, needs to devote some time towards physical activities. “Properly designed fitness programmes hold key to improve fitness of a person”, he said and also stressed the need for regular exercise for every age group. Slathia wished all the success to the management of the Club in their endeavours. Prominent among those present on the occasion included ex- Chairman, Muncipal Corporation Bari Brahmana Mr Raman Gupta, ex- Sarpanch Mr Rampal Sharma besides Mr Raghuveer Singh, Mr Sajad Pathan and Mr Kulbir Singh.
