S. O. S. International – An Organization for PoK Displaced Persons began its indefinite Chain Dharna on Thursday against the apathy of Government over their issues at its headquarters in Bakshi Nagar, Jammu. S. O. S. International has already unveiled in its Press Conference that every day 5 PoK DPs would sit on Chain Dharna and PoK DPs who have kick-started it were Rajiv Chuni, Parmod Ghai, Bhai Ram Singh, Ved Raj Bali and Sanjiv Suri. The Indefinite Chain Dharna began to mark aggression of PoK DPs who are being duped by Government at every step and there are 6 key demands of PoK DPs that include implementation the whole package passed by State Cabinet in October 2014 for PoK Displaced Persons, provide facilities to all displaced at par with Valley Migrants, reservation of 8 seats for people displaced from PoK in J&K Legislative Assembly, permit PoK DPs to visit to their religious places in PoK, inclusion of 5, 300 PoK DPs families living outside the State in the ambit of package passed in October 2014 and return of cash deposits with interest to PoK DPs lying with J&K Bank Mirpur. While speaking in Chain Dharna, Chairman S. O. S. International Rajiv Chuni said that Government has constrained PoK DPs to sit on indefinite Dharna in such biting cold to mark resentment and anger as PoK DPs have fallen prey to false promises of various hostile forces and this time, Central and State Governments are traumatizing by ruining the package and demands. “PoK DPs who have lion’s share in voting are being brutally tortured by one or other. The party is in power whose MP Jugal Kishore Sharma has once organized ‘Refugee Adhikar Yatra’ before elections and soon after the stupendous victory in elections, the MP who spearheaded the Yatra has never spoken a single word for PoK DPs. He was never seen raising the issues of PoK DPs at any forum as he exploited PoK DPs only to get their votes to win elections and in reality, he even had not any solidarity with us”, he added. He further stated that hurdles are being created deliberately to ruin the package under preplanned and well knitted conspiracy.
“Those who are sitting at the helm of affairs keep grudge against the most destitute community who were thrown out from their ancestral houses barefooted. Their near and dear ones were murdered in mass genocide, their women were raped, girls were abducted and an acute bloodshed was orchestrated there. PoK DPs who took bullets at their chests in order to save the State of Jammu and Kashmir are being mistreated in such a cruel manner can’t be humane. They have been waiting for justice for last 7 decades but Government doesn’t pay any heed to their demands”, he added. He stated that the package passed by NC-Congress coalition in year 2014 must be implemented in toto. Government has broken all the records of being biased against PoK DPs as one hand it showers a lot of affection towards Valley Migrants and other hand it showers hatred against PoK DPs. “It is not a concealed fact that Valley Migrants are enjoying all benefits and such benefits must be given to PoK DPs and other displaced that have been spending their lives in utmost inhumane conditions. This disparity needs to be ended and to end such a cruel practice there is urgent need of uniform policy under which all displaced must be treated equally”, he added.
He further said that BJP’s slogan ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ has become stale and meaningless slogan as it is evident that the ‘Vikas’ is confined to only one set of migrant as it keeps on focusing for the development of this specific community neglecting all other Displaced communities especially PoK DPs and other Migrants of State. “How to go beyond the limits of discrimination can be learnt by BJP that has not left any chance to appease Valley Migrants and overlooked PoK DPs”, he said.
“To raise the voice of PoK DPs, there is utmost need of political reservation to this community so that their problems can be mitigated. We have been demanding the reservation of 1/3 i.e. 8 out of 24 seats reserved for PoK areas for PoK DPs in J&K Legislative Assembly. Without political representation, PoK DPs have been suffering a lot therefore, 8 seats must be reserved for them. But unfortunately, none of the parties have ever listened to our concerns and voices. These hostile powers are creating hurdles in our way so that justice can’t be delivered to them. If any casualty happens during this Chain Dharna that can be converted into fast unto death, then State and Central Government will remain wholly solely responsible for it”, he warned.
