In a major breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir has successfully solved the J&K Bank Dachhan branch theft case, arrested two accused persons, and recovered the stolen amount from them.
SSP Kishtwar Javaid Iqbal Mir stated that on February 3, 2025, a complaint was received from the Branch Manager, J&K Bank Suid, Dachhan, reporting a theft amounting to Rs 19,51,600.

investigation was initiated.
On this, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the supervision of ASP (OPS) Kishtwar Nisar Khoja and led by DySP PC Dachhan Sumit Bhagat, SHO PS Dachhan Insp. Harjeet Singh, and other police personnel.
The team meticulously collected evidence and analysed CCTV footage, and it was found that the theft at J&K Bank Suid, Dachhan, took place during the intervening night of Feb 1-2, 2025.
During the course of the investigation, multiple suspects were rounded up for questioning.
Based on sustained efforts and technical analysis, the team finally identified and arrested the main accused, who were involved in the commission of the crime.
The accused were identified as Mohd Yasin of Krossa, Sounder, and Bilal Ahmed of Lidhri, Dachhan.
Upon sustained questioning, both accused confessed to their involvement in the J&K Bank theft case. Based on their disclosure, the SIT of the police team, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate (EMIC), recovered a stolen amount of more than 14 lakhs.
Further investigation is underway to recover the remaining amount.
It is pertinent to mention therein that both the accused burnt their clothes, shoes, and bag containing the bank cash with the intention to destroy the important pieces of evidence. But the SIT of police acted swiftly and recovered all evidence.
SSP Kishtwar reaffirmed that Kishtwar Police is committed to ensuring justice and maintaining law and order in the district. Further arrests and recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses.
He further urged the public to remain vigilant and install CCTV at their residential places and business establishments and report any suspicious activities to help curb criminal activities in the district.
