POONCH, Sept 15:
District Poonch, Jammu and Kathua shared girls’ under-19, under-17 and under-19 titles respectively in the inter-district Divisional level Football Tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Sports Stadium, here today.
In the under-19 final, hosts Poonch girls defeated district Samba 4-1. However, Poonch lost the under-17 title to Jammu losing the final 0-1. In under-14 category, Kathua trounced Jammu 2-0.
Meanwhile, in boys section, the competition was in preliminary stages with district Jammu, Pooch, winning making their presence felt. The Results: Under Under-14: Jammu beat Kathua 5-0; Poonch bt Samba 8-0. Under-19: Poonch bt Rajouri 2-1. Under-17: Poonch bt Kathua 3-0.
The matches officiated by the technical penal comprising Rajinder Singh, Rajinder Singh Toofan, Kewal Krishan, Mohinder Bali, Rajinder Singh, Tarlochan Singh, Narinder Singh, Rajesh Kumar, Romesh Kumar and Bachiter Singh.
In today’s finals and preliminary round of the matches, Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Poonch, Sudhershan Kumar was chief guest. Also present were district officer (DYSS), Narjeet Singh, Narinder Singh and Surinder Singh (both ZPEO).
Meanwhile, the organisers of the competition have managed the eligibility issue of district Kathua and allowed the teams to compete in the event. “We have sorted out the issued and the teams from district Kathua were very much there in the competition. We don’t want the players to suffer for any kind of paper work,” informed Incharge District Officer (DYSS) and organising secretary of the tournament, Narjeet Singh.
