JAMMU, Feb 02:
Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC) has virtually failed in its endeavour to take note of the punctuality on part of the coaches at various training centres in the sports hub of Jammu.
These coaches, who draw hefty salaries for their brief stay on the grounds, show little accountability towards the assigned jobs. They (coaches) hardly report on time at the assigned training centres in and around MA Stadium.
On a visit to the K K Hakhu Stadium yesterday, this SAN team found that young hockey trainees, who arrived at the venue on time, were warming up without a coach.
“Since we cannot stay beyond 5.30 pm at the Stadium during Winters, we come at 3.45 with an aim to practice for a 90-minute training session. Like me, there are around 60 girl trainees in the discipline of Hockey,” said a girl trainee, who preferred not to be quoted.
As many as three coaches have been appointed at the K K Hakhu Stadium by the J&K Sports Council (JKSC) while Sports Authority of India (SAI) has recently transferred its overstaying lady coach to Punjab. Earlier, there were four coaches for a single discipline at the hockey stadium.
Unfortunately, none of these three JKSC coaches could be seen at the venue till 4.30 pm. “Not only Hockey, other training centres has the same story to narrate. They get hefty salaries for brief evening coaching classes in a full working day. A coach should report before his or her trainees arrive to teach the basic fundamental of sports i.e. punctuality,” annoyed with the working style of the coaches, a staffer at the K K Hakhu said.
He further said, “A young trainee come to the stadium sacrificing the studies and spend from the pocket on to and fro expenses. And, when he could not find his coach in place, he gets dejected.”
