JAMMU, Dec 31:
The 3-day Federation Cup Taekwondo Championship 2018 organized by Jammu & Kashmir Taekwondo Association under the aegis of Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI) and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) concluded here today.
Secretary Youth Services & Sports and Information, Sarmad Hafeez felicitated the medalists and congratulated J&K Taekwondo Association for organizing the Federation Cup 2018. He also thanked International Delhi Public School (IDPS) Sunjwan for hosting the event.
Mission Director SRLM J&K, Abdul Rashid War was Guest of Honor on the occasion.
The Secretary YS&S said the event is aimed at promoting athletes for various National and International championships like Asian championship, G1-G2 Olympic ranking championships.
He said it is for the first time that Jammu and Kashmir witnessed this kind of National Championship in which 12 top ranking teams from across the country participated. All the top-notch players from qualified states participated in the event.
The athletes played their matches on Point Sensor Scoring System (PSS) which is completely electronic based. The procedure for organizing the Federation Cup was completely based on Pro-taekwondo events like ‘Grand slam’ super series and ‘World Grand Prix’.
During the second day of championship the J&K Taekwondo Association held medal ceremony for the entire medalists who secured medals in their respective weight categories, along with a demonstration performed by Korean Cultural Demo Team Headed by Master Lee Wan Yong of Korea.
Hafeez said organizing such events at the National level would help in providing exposure and innovation to the local youth and go along way in promoting sports in the State.
He said it is the priority of Governor’s Administration to provide proper sporting infrastructure and platform to the youth of the state to excel at National and international level.
