Jammu June 02 :
The Central University of Jammu is reeling under the authoritarian rule of its Vice Chancellor Prof Ashok Aima, who is throwing all norms to the winds and resorting to corruption without any fear of authorities, this was stated by National Secular Forum (NSF) state president, Dr. Vikas Sharma.
While addressing a press conference here today, Dr Vikas Sharma said that more than a dozen retired professors had been appointed in Central University of Jammu and that too without approval of University’s Executive Council, its highest decision making body. “All the appointments were made with the consent of Vice Chancellor but Executive Council was totally ignored which is illegal and violation of UGC norms. As per norms, only selection committee comprises of Deans, VC, subject experts, shall make the appointments on teaching posts,” he said.
“Nothing was taken on record before going for new appointments and even requisition was necessitated and all the appointments were made out of VC’s choice Whosoever is in ‘good books’ of VC gets job in varsity. He has turned the Varsity into a Rehabilitation Center for Professors retired from Jammu University which is not a good sign for growth of this upcoming institution,” he added.
NSF state Chief Dr Vikas Sharma blamed the incumbent Vice Chancellor Prof. Ashok Aima of downplaying the sentiments of Jammu people who fought hard for the establishment of Central University in Jammu. “We got this University after a long struggle and had expectations that full-fledged Dogri department will be opened for the promotion of local literature and culture. Also, a chair after the name of some tall personality of Dogra land will also be established to promote research in the field of Dogri literature. But, things turned totally different as the CUJ administration has failed to fulfill the popular demand of Jammu people,” he said. “It is been four years since he took over the reins of University but he has failed to make permanent appointment of top officials barring one, who is also his favorite. He is deliberately doing so to avoid appointing any person for Dogra community at higher levels,” he further alleged.
He demanded that PG department in Dogri should be established within days otherwise threatened to launch a agitation to oust the incumbent Vice Chancellor who has disrespected the Dogra sentiments and degrading the institution through his misdeeds.
He also urged the President of India and new Union HRD Ministry to take cognizance of corruption and nepotism-favoritism in CUJ and order inquiry to unravel the wrong doings. Among those who were present in the press-conference included Papinder Singh, Pushpinder Singh, Ishtiaq Naik and Sahil Sharma.
