New Delhi, May 29:
Congress president Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhiwill attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which will be held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad will also attend the ceremony. President Ram Nath Kovind will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Narendra Modi and other members of the Union Council of Ministers on Thursday. Heads of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) nations as well as prominent opposition leaders have been invited for the ceremony. The invitation to opposition leaders is seen as Modi’s move to reach out to them following the fiercely fought election in which the BJP registered a massive victory. Earlier today, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee said she will not attend the ceremony, alleging the BJP was using it “to score political points”.
