Acting on the request of Union Sports Minister, Kiren Rijiju, the Ministry of Railways has restored the travel concession to the sportspersons for various National level competitions held in the country. Important to mention here that the Indian Railways had discontinued with the past practice of travel concession to the sportspersons. However, after media highlighted the issue, the Union Sports Ministry in a swift action approached the Railways Minister and got the concessions restored in the interest of sports.Now, the new notification, issued by the Railways, across various categories, the sports has got 75 per cent concession in second class and 50 per cent in first class travel with immediate effect.”The Union Sports Ministry deserves appreciation for their prompt action in the interest of sports and sportspersons of the country.
Sportspersons need to be encouraged in all spears of life,” said international football player from Jammu, Arun Malhotra.The sports associations in J&K also welcomed the restoration of the travel concessions by the Railways. “Travel cost across the country for sports events remain a major concern for an athlete, so restoration of old practice of concessions would go a long way in further encouraging the sports,” said former Volleyball coach of University of Jammu and treasurer with Volleyball Association of J&K, Ramesh Sharma.
