District Congress Committee (DCC) Jammu Rural paid rich tributes to the former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary here today.
The party organized a number of programmes to mark the occasion across the district under the guidance and supervision of President DCC Rural, Hari Singh Chib while following COVID SOPs strictly.
Keeping in view the ongoing pandemic situation, this year’s programme was planned to provide succour to the needy and poor by distributing free food grains and pulses besides creating awareness about the dire need for testing and vaccination to protect oneself and the society at large against the spread of Corona virus.
During a programme held at Azad Colony Muthi falling in Raipur Domana constituency, Hari Singh Chib, while paying tributes to late Rajiv Gandhi, said that he was a man with a tremendous vision and far ahead of his time. Being a compassionate and loving human being, his political life was short, but in that duration, he managed to give a new direction to the nation’s progress, he added.
Hari Singh said that Rajiv Gandhi believed that India’s unity was strengthened by her diversity and the Congress party too believes and propagates the same ideology.
Recalling the former Prime Minister for ushering in the telecom revolution in India, the DCC Rural President asserted that it is due to his dreams that foundation was laid for modern India. He said that today when the nation is fighting the unprecedented battle COVID-19 it is time to rededicate ourselves to Rajiv Gandhi’s ideals as this is the best tribute we can offer to him on his death anniversary.
After paying tributes to Late Rajiv Gandhi, Hari Singh Chib distributed ration items including flour (Aata) and pulses (Dal) among the widows, poor and needy people.
Meanwhile, another function was organized near Paloura Manhas Sabha in Raipur Domana Constit uency where DCC Rural organized a COVID-19 Testing camp attended by about one hundred persons who were tested there for Corona virus. It is pertinent to mention here that Hari Singh Chib also got his test conducted in the said camp and was found negative.
Those who accompanied the DCC Rural President and paid tributes to Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in today’s functions included Som Nath Sharma, Tarun Vaid, Virender Mehta, Om Parkash and others.
