The Director General of J&K Police (DGP), Dilbag Singh declared open the five-day long Inter-zonal sports meet of JKP in a colourful inaugural function amidst musical performances and women’s Tug of War at Police Stadium, Gulshan Ground, here today. The DGP, who remained associated with different sports associations in the state before taking over as head of the State Police force, termed the inter-zonal event an opportunity to look for the fresh talent and help them groom into national and international medal winners. While greeting the retired, serving police officers, players, managers and the spectators on the new year the DGP said that such events provide an opportunity to the people to come close and develop new friendships. He said that the police personnel of different zones must take advantage of this. He complemented the ADGP Armed and IGP Armed Jammu for successful organization of Inter Battalion Sports event and hoped that Inter Zone Sports event will also be a huge success.
He also advised the players and other participants not to restrict the sports to the competition only but must make them a part of their routine life.
Earlier, ADGP Armed, AK Choudhary in his address welcomed serving, retired police officers, participating zones and others. He gave a brief resume of the different events conducted by the J&K Police for its personnel as also for the youth of the State under Civic Action Programme (CAP). He also gave details about the different games in which competitions will be held during the event.
The IGP Armed Jammu, Danesh Rana thanked the DGP J&K and Police Headquarters for supporting wholeheartedly. He also thanked all retired police officers for gracing the occasion as also departments, police wings and all the people for their cooperation. He said that in the future the J&K Police will continue to hold such events to inculcate sports spirit among its personnel and also make them understand and work for healthy body and healthy mind. The opening day witnessed Follower Ram Raj of Jammu Zone winning the long distance race of 10,000 meters held on the University of Jammu tracks. Ct. Tahir Aziz of Training Zone bagged silver while Ct. Barkat Ali of Armed Zone finished third. In the field event of Shot Put, Ct. Arshad Ahmad of Armed Zone won the gold while Sgct. Manander Singh of Training and Ct. Maninder Singh of Armed bagged silver and bronze respectively.
