The unabated cold wave continued in Kashmir Valley even as there was rise in night temperature at many weather stations, officials said on Monday.
The cold wave will continue to grip the Kashmir valley , the Meteorological Centre Srinagar.It said the weather will generally remain dry with the possibility of light snow over the upper reaches of Kashmir valley during December 21 and 22.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, settled at minus 3.4°C for the second consecutive day on Monday and this was 2.2°C below normal of minus 1.2°C during this period of the season for the place.
The night temperature recorded during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday at theTourist spot of Pahalgam witnessed a further fall and recorded at minus 5.0°C against the minus 4.8°C a day ago. This was 0.9°C below normal for the place for the day.
Qazigund also settled at minus 4.0°C for the second day on Monday and it was 2.6°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu National highway during the period.
At the famous picnic spot of Kokernag in south Kashmir the night temperature slipped down on Monday and recorded at minus 3.9°C against the 2.8°C recorded the previous night and this was 2.4°C below normal for the place.
The minimum temperature at the ski resort of Gulmarg also plunged by a few notches and recorded at 4.0°C against the minus 3.8°C the previous night. This was 1.0°C above normal for the valley of meadow in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on this day.
Kupwara recorded a low of minus 4.2°C against the minus 3.7°C the previous night and this was 2.2°C below normal for the frontier Kashmir district during this period of the season, the MeT office.
