Reliance Jio ‘Monsoon Hungama’ offer on JioPhone to start from today

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has advanced by a day the launch of its monsoon ‘hungama’ scheme that would offer its JioPhone to customers for Rs 501 to July 20, a company source said.
In the annual general meeting of Reliance Industries, Ambani had announced that the scheme will begin from July 21. “Jio will start monsoon hungama scheme from 5.01 pm on July 20. Even the timing has been kept to reflect effective price of the phone,” the source told PTI.Under the present scheme, mobile subscribers using feature of any brand can exchange it with new JioPhone for effective price of Rs 501 — a price for which Reliance Industries Limited’s telecom arm in 2003 had offered mobile phone to consumers.
Back in 2003, when Reliance Infocomm (now Reliance Communications) had launched the scheme in the same name it was under control of Mukesh Ambani.
The scheme in 2003 had led to sharp increase in market share of the company and according to a leading telecom entrepreneur it had raised question on survival of other leading mobile operators in the market.
Reliance Infocomm came under control of Anil Ambani after division of assets between the two brothers in 2005. According to the source, Reliance Jio will announce terms and condition of the scheme tomorrow.The anticipated Jio Phone Monsoon Hungama offer has been kicked off today. Announced at the 41st Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Annual General Meeting (AGM) earlier this month, the new offer is designed to convince existing feature phone users to switch to a new Jio Phone at an effective price of Rs. 501. The Rs. 501 price also is claimed to be a 100 percent refundable security deposit that will be given back to customers at the end of three years. The offer will go live at 5pm today via Jio Stores in India, and will be available through all retail stores (including partners) starting tomorrow. The operator has also announced a special recharge plan for customers opting the Jio Phone Monsoon Hungama offer.
Jio Phone Monsoon Hungama Offer
Under the new Monsoon Hungama Offer, customers can buy the Jio Phone at Rs. 501 in lieu of their existing feature phones. Jio says that it will accept old phones based on 2G/ 3G/ 4G (non-VoLTE) connectivity. Further, the old phones must be in working condition and charger. Customers will receive a new Jio SIM with the handset opting under the new offer, though they can opt for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) to retain their existing number.
As per the official criteria for exchange, the old phones must been in working condition without any damage/ missing parts or broken/ burnt parts. The phones also need to be exchanged along with their battery and charger. Furthermore, mobiles phones that were sold from January 1, 2015, onwards are eligible for exchange users under the exchange offer will get a special exchange bonus of 6GB data voucher worth Rs. 101. This brings a total data of 90GB for a period of six months. Apart from this, a new Rs. 99 Jio recharge pack for the feature phone has been launched, offering 500MB data per day, unlimited voice calls, and 300 text messages for 28 days.
From August 15 onward , both existing and new, JioPhone users will also get to access Facebook, WhatsApp and Youtube. In his speech on RIL annual general meeting, Mukesh Ambani had said that 25 million people have opted for JioPhone and the company is now looking to get 100 million consumers of JioPhone.
