In view of the political uncertainty hovering over J&K and rumor mills working overtime suggesting horse trading and unfair practices to woo rival MLAs by political parties, a battalion of Panther activists spearheaded by Mr. Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP and other leaders staged a vociferous protest demonstration at Exhibition Ground in Jammu. The agitated protesters while accusing the Central government of indulging in proxy rule through the Governor torched the effigy of BJP seeking immediate dissolution of Assembly.
Addressing the media, Harsh Dev Singh regretted that there were reports that BJP was enticing the rival legislators to convert them into ‘renegades’ and to encourage defections by unethical practices. “The bids of horse trading had made political parties jittery who were struggling to keep their MLAs intact and rescue them from getting trapped into corrupt deals.
The ‘rat race’ for power had picked up momentum which had threatened the very essence of the democracy.
While BJP was trying to break other parties, some of its opportunist members realizing the end of their Saffron career were reportedly desperate to go back in Congress who had earlier crossed floors during the previous elections. Certainly, the reports of the corrupt and unethical practices besides the menace of horse trading were haunting the State’s politics”, Harsh divulged.
Alleging that the prolonged suspension of the State Assembly was illegal and defied all the constitutional precedents, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh said that so far no political party or a plausible alliance had claimed to form the government.
And, in such a situation the dissolution of Assembly was inevitable and required immediate attention of the Governor and the President of India, he added. He said that NC, PDP and Congress had categorically conveyed their unwillingness to form the government and advocated for fresh Assembly polls in the State. “It was only BJP which is wriggling for power and exploring undemocratic opportunities by unfair practices to ascend the throne on the pattern of Goa, Meghalaya and Manipur and other states. The dangerous trend will surely push J&K to further alienation, ruin and disaster”, warned Harsh.
Concerned over the J&K Assembly being kept under suspended animation without justification and rationale, he once again urged the Governor to dissolve the State Assembly without any further delay in accordance with the mandate of law, precedents and legal stipulations.
