Today Representatives of prominent market associations including Sh. Rajeev Gupta (Vice President) Chamber of Commerce President Gumat Bazar Association, Smt Pooja Kapoor (President) Residency road, Sh. Atul Rajpal (President), Rajinder Bazaar, Sh. Sunil Sharma (General Secy.), Welfare Association Trikuta Shopping Complex, Sh. Raman Gandotra (Rajinder Bazar), Sh. Kartar Gupta (President) Lakdata Bazaar, Sh. Rajan Gupta (General Secy.), Trader Welfare Association, Bus Stand Jammu, Sh. Ramesh Kumar Tak (President), Sh. Satish Mahajan (Sr. Vice President) Shalamar Trade Association, Sh. Jawahar Jain (Cashier), Shalamar Trade Association, Sh. Dalip Gupta (Secy.) Shalamar Trade Association, Sh. Dharminder Mahajan (President), Sh. Joginer Pal Gupta (Member), Smt Madhu Sharma (President) General Bus Stand Shopkeeper Association, Sh. Rajinder Gupta (President) Link Road Trader Association, Sh. Ankush Gupta (Residency Road) meet Adv. Purnima Sharma, Hon’ble Deputy Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation and presented their charter of demands and request to redress the problems faced by the business fraternity. The Deputy Mayor assured them that their genuine demands and problems will be redressed at the earliest and the directions in this regard was issued to the concerned officer’s on the spot. The charter of demands includes the following main points:
The members from upper Bazaar Association demanded the construction of Speed breakers to prevent from the high speeding vehicles crossing from the bazaar. They also demanded for the maintenance of street lights and water coolers in the bazaar.
The members from Shaheedi chowk market association demanded for the parking slot for two wheelers at Shaheedi Chowk, Fountain at main shaheedi chowk for the beautification of shaheedi chowk and for the attraction of tourists, water cooler at needed points at Kanak Mandi & Shaheedi chowk.
The common demands of all the Bazaar association was the demand of dustbins at each shop in each market and door to door collection of garbage should be started at earliest. Maintenance of street lights, high mast lights, water coolers should be done on priority and all the nonfunctional lights and water cooler should be repaired on war footing basis, as the light and provision for proper drinking water is the basic demand. Proper maintenance of Public toilets and construction of new public toilets at Sabzi Mandi, Moti Bazaar, Purani Mandi and needed areas should be done in the market for the welfare of the locals and shopkeepers. The bazaar association suggested Hon’ble Deputy Mayor to reduce the width of Footpath from 4.5 meters to 3.5 meters as this will widen the road and provide relief to the congestion in the market.
The Deputy Mayor assured the representatives of associations that their all problem’s will be sorted out in the shortest possible period. The Hon’ble Deputy Mayor directed the concerned official to get all the damaged lights, high mast lights and water coolers functional on priority basis. As the Amarnath Yatra is to begin from June so she makes sure that all the problems related to sanitation gets resolved as soon as possible. She also directed the concerned officials that all the drains and nallahs should be covered iron gratings and slabs on need basis. The Deputy mayor also requested them to cooperate with JMC by not doing any illegal encroachment of roads, so this will help in making Jammu city clean and will enhance the tourism of Jammu and the associations agreed to cooperate with JMC.
The Hon’ble Deputy mayor also conducted a surprise inspection of Ward No: 40 due to the complaints of the locals. During the inspection, the Hon’ble Deputy Mayor and the officials from the health section present at the site discussed the sanitation issues and maintenance of street lights. During the inspection, it came into the notice that the collection point on the main road in wno:40 was not cleared even at 11.50 am causing difficulty for the passerby and causing nuisance for the locality. Hon’ble Deputy Mayor directed the health Officer on the spot to make sure that collection points get cleared before 10:00 in the morning. It was also found that most of street lights were out of order and very few were functioning. There were pits and ditches on the roads. Lanes and drains were in worst condition and were blocked causing nuisance to the locality. The Hon’ble Deputy Mayor also took stock of the various problems faced by the general public. The Hon’ble Deputy Mayor directed the concerned officials of Jammu Municipal Corporation on spot to sort out the grievances of the public on war footing. Hon’ble Deputy Mayor directed Dr. Saleem Khan, Health Officer, JMC to provide proper sanitation staff and facility for the welfare of the locality. It was found that some Rehris have occupied the road despite the Rehri Zone being provided to them. All the sanitary supervisors were directed strictly to work with full dedication & hard work especially in the field & provide best to the expectation of General Public on routine basis.
