A two-week refresher course in Disaster Management organized by UGC-HRDC University of Jammu under the Coordinatorship of Prof Pankaj Srivastava concluded today. Speaking in a valedictory function, the Chief Guest, Prof Rajni Kant, Director, College Development Council, University of Jammu said that the disasters, whether natural or manmade, normally disrupt the normal life as well as progress and thus not only efficient management of disasters is required but also, we must resolve to the development of an ethos of Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness and Response of the disasters.
He stressed that the knowledge obtained by the teachers must be disseminated amongst their students to develop a safer, disaster-resilient and dynamic India. Earlier, Prof Rahul Gupta, the director of HRDC informed that this was the 101st Refresher Course organized by HRDC, University of Jammu. He thanked all the participant for choosing the University of Jammu for attending this Course.
While presenting the report of the programme Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Coordinator of the Programme informed that the course started on 1st Feb 2021 in online mode and was attended by 48 Assistant Professors from different discipline from the colleges and universities from more than 10 states of India. He also reported that the eminent academicians& researchers, administrators, medical professionals and disaster professionals from the premier institutions from the country like National Institute of Disaster Management, IIT, TISS, SASE(DRDO), MOES, AIU, Delhi University, University of Jammu and Himachal Pradesh University, Medical Colleges, Disaster Management Authorities of J &K and Uttarakhandetcwere the resource persons for the Refresher Course. During the programme varied aspects of the natural and man-made disasters, their causes and mitigation and management, disaster preparedness, the economics of disaster, managing post-traumatic stress and other health issues were covered as well as and some training on first aid and stress management through yoga was also imparted to the participants, he said.
All the participants spoke very high about the organization, content and the recourse persons of the Refresher Course organized by the Department of Geology and UGC-HRDC University of Jammu.Prof S K Pandita, Co-coordinator of the programme and Dr Ranjeet Kalra, teaching faculty, HRDC were also present on the occasion.
