After Ritu Varma’s 2016 release Pelli Choopulu became a super success and won the National Award, the Telugu audience assumed they’d see more of her on the silver screen. But the actress has had only one release since then, the 2017-film Keshava. Now, Ritu has signed a new Telugu film opposite Sharwanand. That being said, the actress vehemently disagrees with the use of “comeback” with respect to her latest venture in Tollywood. “I don’t like the word ‘comeback’ because I never ran away. I did not take a sabbatical either. I have been doing four back-to-back films in Tamil. And those films will release in Telugu as well,” she clarifies. We ask Ritu whether it was a conscious decision to work in Tamil films. “Post Pelli Choopulu, I was offered several scripts in Telugu. And as much as I’d love to do a Telugu film, nothing exciting came my way until now. Moreover, cinema has no language barriers as most of the films have releases in other regions too. So I don’t feel like I have been missing in action,” the Dhruva Natchathiram actor replies. Talking about her upcoming Telugu film, which is directed by Shree Karthick, Ritu shares, “I instantly fell in love with the way Karthick narrated the story. I had the gut feeling that he had the ability to transform the script diligently.”Adding that the youthful entertainer revolves around love and friendship, Ritu states, “I play a girl in the present day, which is why I could instantly connect with the script. The film has an emotional aspect to it and revolves around relationships. And as the plotline is universal, we decided to make it a bilingual (Telugu and Tamil).”
