Indian athlete Avinash Sable on Thursday announced that he has successfully underwent surgery to correct a deviated septum, a long-standing issue that has impacted his performance. The procedure took place at Kokilaben Hospital here, where Sable expressed his gratitude to Dr Sanjiv Bhadwar and his team for their exceptional care.In a statement shared on social media, Sable remarked, “To be able to breathe properly feels amazing.” He also extended his thanks to the Inspire Institute of Sport for their unwavering support throughout his recovery process.
Sable, who has established himself as India’s premier long and middle-distance runner in recent years, bettered his national record in the 3000m steeplechase at the Paris Diamond League earlier this year.He last competed in the Brussels Diamond League Final in September, finishing in ninth place in the 3000m steeplechase. In August at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Sable qualified for his first Olympic final but finished 11th in his pet event.The 29-year-old first made headlines in 2018 when he clocked 8:29.88 in the 3000m steeplechase at the Open Nationals, breaking a 30-year-old national record by 0.12 seconds. He has since bettered his own mark multiple times.Sable’s impressive accolades also include winning the gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou and securing silver at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.Additionally, Sable holds the national record for the half marathon, with a remarkable time of 1:00:30 at the Delhi Half Marathon in 2020. His national record in the 5000m was recently surpassed by Gulveer Singh last month.With his surgery behind him, Sable is eager to return to the track, stating, “Looking forward to getting back out on the track soon.
