Sacrifices of police personnel will keep inspiring nation: LG

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday paid rich tributes to the unwavering courage and sacrifice of J&K Police personnel, describing them as the embodiment of duty, discipline, loyalty, and selfless service.
Speaking at the Police Commemoration Day event held at the Armed Police Complex, Zewan, LG Sinha lauded the force for consistently placing duty above all else.
“Whether combating terrorism, enforcing the law, investigating crimes, or responding to emergencies—such as the recent natural calamities—the J&K Police have consistently demonstrated their steadfast commitment to duty first,” he said.
Paying homage to the 1,614 officers who have laid down their lives in the line of duty, LG Sinha assured that their families would continue to receive the administration’s unwavering support and care.
“Our brave police personnel have kept the tricolor flying high, even at the cost of their own lives. Their deep love for the nation and the flag is the foundation of their courage and service,” he added.
The Lieutenant Governor also emphasized that the sacrifices made by the police force continue to inspire future generations to uphold the values of the country.

Reiterating the need for vigilance, LG Sinha urged the J&K Police to remain prepared to neutralise any terrorist threats, and stressed a collaborative approach across the five pillars of the criminal justice system—police, prosecution, judiciary, forensics, and prisons—to uphold justice and public safety.
He also called for the adoption of smart technologies to counter evolving threats such as cybercrime, drug trafficking, and misinformation.
“We are committed to the welfare of police personnel and their families. Several initiatives are underway to ensure that the families of martyred officers live a life of dignity and comfort,” he said.
The solemn ceremony was also attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who, along with legislators Tanvir Sadiq, Sakina Itoo, Javed Dar, and other dignitaries, paid floral tributes at the memorial.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police J&K Nalin Prabhat, Additional DGP (Armed) Anand Jain, and Principal Secretary, Home Department were also present on the occasion.
Director General of Police, J&K, Nalin Prabhat read out the names of the police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation. A two-minute silence was observed and ceremonial arms were reversed in honour of the martyrs.

As part of the commemorative events, the Lieutenant Governor also visited a blood donation camp organized in memory of the fallen heroes, where he interacted with volunteers and appreciated their spirit of service.
