How does he merge? Sahib is saying that when I was there, the Guru was not there, now the Guru is there, I am not there. The path of love is very narrow. Two cannot merge in it. If the Guru is very far away, then do your meditation. He will come riding on the horse of words. Like when the ghost comes, the body is his, but he does the same work that the ghost makes him do. In this way, the Guru merges.
We all pray. It means that we all have accepted that our prayers reach God. You see that when America killed Osama Bin Laden, they first caught his voice. Similarly, your voice reaches the universe at the same time.
How did man come to believe that the prayers we are saying are reaching God. Every person prays to God in times of trouble. The death will go to the person whose number you have called. Guru is sitting across seven seas, this Surati will reach there in a moment. It does not take much time for Surati to go away. Secondly, after Naam you are under surveillance. You keep praying. You have faith. Then no one can harm you. That power joins you. It takes care of you every moment. The power of Naam will slowly take you there.
