On the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and as a part of BJP’s nation wide program “Seva Saptah”, Former Minister and Ex-MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma (CA) along with Mayor JMC Chander mohan Gupta, Corporator Ward 8 Dr Akshay Sharma addressed a program held at Govt Girls High School, Dogra Hall on “ Single Use Plastic” where hundreds of school children participated and pledged to keep the environment clean by not using SUP.
Speaking on the occasion, Sat Sharma said that time has come for the world to say “good bye to single-use plastics.” He said Central Government under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi has announced that India will put an end to single use plastic in coming times as its very harmful for the environment.
He said single use plastics are used only once before they are thrown away or recycled and these include plastic bags, cups, plates, aerated drinks’ bottles, straws, stirrers, take-away food containers, processed food packers and wrappers. Of these, foamed products such as disposable cutlery, plates and glasses are considered the most dangerous to the environment, he added.
Relating the matter with “Swach Bharat” mission, he stated today India has reached to that spot where cleanliness prevails and the example for the same is the statistics of construction of toilets which has increased to 99% now in today’s date which was earlier 38% till 2014.
Chander Mohan and Dr Akshay stressed on doing more awareness programmes so that public can be made aware regarding use of Single Use plastic. He stated that such a thing is too much dangerous for us and for our future generations as well and he asked the participants to explain others as well as to how an end can be brought up to the use of Single Use Plastics.
Headmaster Tasleema Bano ,Suresh salgotra, Surjit Singh, Varender sharma, Vipin verma, Raman Sharma, Rajesh Gupta, Gurbaksh Singh, Vishal Gupta, Raghuveer kumar, ragbir and several others were also present.
