Multi-tier security in place ahead of ID function in Kashmir: IGP Birdi

The security forces on Tuesday continued their search operation in the dense forests of Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir to track down the hiding militants who had killed two soldiers in an encounter on Saturday.
There has been no contact with the militants since Saturday evening.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir V K Birdi said that the search operation to track down the hiding militants in the woods of south Kashmir’s Anantnag is continuing.
“The search operation in Anantnag is still underway and has not yet reached its logical conclusion”, Birdi told media persons in Srinagar.
He said such an operation is being conducted on the available information.
“The security forces are conscious and vigilantly undertaking the search operation,” IGP said.

“The militants are trying to create an unpleasant situation, “he said and added “the security set up is being metered or toned up keeping in view the adversaries plans”.
Two soldiers, identified as Havildar Deepak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma, were killed on Saturday in a gun battle in the mountainous forests of Ahlan Gadole area of Kokernag, located at an altitude of 10,000 ft. A civilian Abdul Rashid Dar who was wounded during the gunfight died on Sunday.
The searches have also been extended in the Doda-Bhaderwah in Jammu region as the forest area in Anantnag where the gun battle took place is close to that area.
Police suspect that three to four foreign militants are believed to have engaged with forces on Saturday in the forest area.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Kashmir V K Birdi said a multi-tier security arrangement has been put in place for the smooth and peaceful conduct of Independence Day functions all across the Kashmir valley.
“As you know the functions regarding the Independence Day are undergoing and today in all districts of Kashmir valley full dress rehearsal and security rehearsal were undertaken. Multi-tier security arrangements have been put in place for the safe and smooth conduct of the functions,” Birdi told media persons in Srinagar on Tuesday.
A full dress rehearsal of Independence Day function was held at Srinagar’s Bakshi stadium in Srinagar today amid unprecedented security arrangements put in place.
“Multi-tier security arrangements have also been put in place at the Bakshi Stadium, the venue of the main Independence function in Srinagar,” IGP Birdi said.
He said adequate security arrangements have been put in place for the cultural and other programmes being held across all the districts of Kashmir on the Independence day also.
Birdi said that regularity security check posts have been erected at various places to ensure incident free Independence Day function in Srinagar and other districts of the valley.
Asked about the recent militant attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, Birdi said that “such foolproof security arrangements are being put in place keeping in view the present situation.”
Meanwhile, security forces in Srinagar today were seen randomly checking vehicles on various routes to ensure safe and incident free conduct of Independence Day celebrations.
