MUMBAI, MAY 09,
The National selection panel has adopted a wait-and-watch approach over Kedar Jadhav’s fitness ahead of the World Cup.
The middle-order batsman and spinner had injured his left shoulder during Chennai Super Kings’ match against Kings XI Punjab last Sunday.
While the injury, suffered when Jadhav dived to stop a four, looked scary initially, the medical staff of the Indian team is optimistic over his availability for the World Cup opener against South Africa on June 5.
The Hindu understands that Patrick Farhart, the Indian team physiotherapist, assessed Jadhav in Chennai on Tuesday and has advised the player to wear a sling for at least a week.
As per the tournament rules, changes to the provisional squad can be made till May 23.
The selectors have decided to exploit it and give Jadhav ample time to recover and prove his fitness ahead of India’s departure on May 22.
