Ramban, Apr 20:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajeev Charak has expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of three lives and widespread destruction caused by a cloudburst and subsequent landslides in Ramban district. The disaster, which struck Seri Bagna village, has also severely impacted homes, livestock, and infrastructure, while blocking the critical Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44).
In a heartfelt statement, Rajeev Charak said, “I am deeply saddened by the devastating cloudburst and landslides in Ramban that have claimed precious lives and caused immense suffering. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones and those affected by this calamity. The BJP stands in solidarity with the people of Ramban during this challenging time.”
Charak commended the swift response of the local administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and community volunteers in evacuating over 100 villagers and providing immediate relief. He urged for expedited rehabilitation efforts, stating, “The affected families need comprehensive support to rebuild their lives. I appeal to the administration to ensure timely compensation and long-term rehabilitation for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.”
Addressing the highway closure, Charak emphasized the urgency of restoring connectivity, saying, “The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is the lifeline of the region.
I urge the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and concerned agencies to prioritize clearance operations to restore access and ensure the smooth flow of essential supplies.”
Charak also called for a geological assessment to identify the causes of recurring landslides in the region, adding, “We must take proactive measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. Expert intervention from the Geology department is critical to safeguard vulnerable areas.”
The BJP leader extended his gratitude to the district administration and rescue teams for their tireless efforts and assured that the party remains committed to supporting the affected communities. “We will work closely with the government to ensure all necessary aid reaches those in need,” he affirmed.
