Sensex surges 602.75 pts

Snapping a losing streak of the last five sessions, the BSE Sensex on Monday jumped 602.75 pts to close high at 80,005.04 on the strength of Realty, Commodities, Metal and Telecommunications stocks despite weak global cues.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 158.35 pts at 24,339.15. The Sensex opened in green at 79,653.67, up 251 pts. It rallied 1137 pts at 80,539.81, a day high before closing at 80,005.04, gaining 602.75 pts from its last close. The NSE registered days high and low at 24,492.60b and 24,134.90 pts respectively. The stocks that lifted the market were Commodities by 1.79 pc, Realty by 1.40 pc, Telecommunications by 1.36 pc and Metal by 1.21 pc. The Mid-cap moved up 0.69 pc and Small-cap by 1.11bpc. In 30 scrips, 25 advanced, while 5 declined. The gainers were ICICI Bank by 3.09 pc to Rs 1294.25, JSW Steel by 2.68 pc to Rs 968.45, M& M by 2.66 pc to Rs 2789.15, Adani Ports by 2.57 pc to Rs 1350.10 and Tata Steel by 2.43 pc to Rs 149.35.

The losers were Axis Bank by 1.30 pc to Rs 1172.25, Kotak Bank by 0.83 pc to Rs 1753.60, Tech Mahindra by 0.72 pc to Rs 1704, and HDFC Bank by 0.46 pc to Rs 1734.65.

However, a negative trend was seen in the Asian Market as Strait Times was down by 0.26 pc,Taiwan Weighted by 0.65 pc and Set Composite was down by 0.72 pc.
