JAMMU, Feb 15:
The Jammu and Kashmir unit of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Industries and Trade Cell held its meeting at R S Pura under the chairmanship of its Convenor Sham Lal Langer. Large number of traders and businessmen who were led by district representative Om Prakash Chachu participated in the meeting. Among other demands, the traders requested for shifting of Mandi outside the town as the current location adjacent to school is leading to a number of problems being faced by all the stakeholders.
The people also apprised Langer of the problems faced by the general public due to the blanket ban on extraction of sand, gravel and other mining activities and ban on transportation of the same. The construction of Morchas for which the government has asking them, along with construction of houses and shops has stopped due to the continuous ban on mining and is causing great inconvenience of the general public, they added.
The people also expressed their apprehensions that due to ban of mining in Tawi, its water level is rising significantly with each passing year and in next few years, the entire city and villages of Jammu may face floods.
The traders also expressed their anguish over the attack on a businessman in R S Pura the other day. “The spirits of the criminal elements have soared so high that businessmen are being attacked with sharp-edged weapons and looted now. We demand that the culprits are dealt strictly according to the law, failing which we will observe a complete shutdown in R S Pura,” they said.
Sham Lal Langar assured the meeting that he will take up all their concerns with the party leadership and the administration and will see to it that an immediate and efficient solution is arrived .
