Shashi Tharoor seeks anticipatory bail in wife Sunanda Pushkar death case

Congress Lok Sabha member Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday moved a Delhi court seeking anticipatory bail in the case pertaining to the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.
Pushkar was found dead in the suite of a five-star hotel in New Delhi on January 17, 2014.
Mr. Tharoor filed the bail application in the court of Special Judge Arvind Kumar.
Taking cognisance of the charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police in the matter, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal, on June 6, directed him to appear before the court on July 7 at 10 a.m.
“I have perused the charge sheet [police report under Section 173 of the Cr.PC] and documents filed along with it by the Special Investigation Team. On the basis of the police report, I take cognizance of the offence of abetment of suicide under Section 306 of the IPC of late Ms. Sunanda Pushkar and of committing cruelty upon her, punishable under Section 498A of the IPC, by Dr. Shashi Tharoor,” Mr. Vishal had said, summoning him.
