JAMMU, May 14:
On a mission to encourage by way of felicitation and motivate through inspirational and guidance lecture, former Joint Secretary of the J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC), Shiv Kumar Sharma spread sports awareness among young students in a special lecture at Government High School Seen Brahmana in district Udhampur. Selected by the school management on the basis of their performance at the district and state level competitions, three outstanding sportspersons of the school, Manisha Devi (Kabaddi), Anju Devi (Kabaddi) and Vijay Kumar (Volleyball) were felicitated by the visiting resource person, who is also president of the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
Shiv Kumar also laid stress on sports in life and focused on the career prospects in the field of sports, especially for the girls.
Besides guiding young students in the field of sports, Shiv Kumar, who is a social activist, spoke in length on the moral values in life and responsibilities of the citizens in the overall development of a society. He also sensitized the students about the prevailing drug menace among youth.
Senior citizen for the area, Captain (retired) Hans Raj was honoured for his contributions in awakening the society.
Earlier, Headmaster of the school, Amar Nath welcomed Shiv Kumar Sharma and other distinguished gathering of parents and prominent people of the area terming the lecture on sports as need of the hour.
The proceedings were conducted by retired Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Channey Ram while vote of thanks extended by teacher of school, Mubarik Hussain.
Prominent among those present were Sarpanch Seen Brahamana, Neelam Sharma, Panch, Sushma Devi, Panch, Ramesh Kumar, Panch, Sham Lal, Subedar (Retd.), Subash Chander, Som Raj Sharma, (Retd Master) Captain (retired) Hans Raj, Rattan Chand (Retd Deputy Manager Finance in NHPC Ltd.) and Babu Ram Sharma.
